Volunteer Recognition Awards
Volunteer Recognition Awards
Volunteers who’ve made an extraordinary contribution to our community will be recognised at a ceremony on Monday 18 June, a Volunteer Awareness Week event.
Those receiving Volunteer Recognition Awards include volunteers who were working with a group of people with mental health issues when the February earthquake caused the building they were in to collapse. They ensured that all twenty group members escaped safely and were cared for until they could return to their homes.
People receiving Awards include several who have made a great deal of difference in their ethnic communities and others who have dedicated their time and talents to enriching the lives of vulnerable members of the community.
Volunteering Canterbury manager, Ruth Gardner said: “Their stories are heart-warming and inspiring, and everyone is welcome to join us at the Awards presentation.” This will be at 2pm at St Mark’s Community Centre in Withells Road, Avonhead. The guest speaker will be the Hon. Jo Goodhew, Minister for the Community and Voluntary Sector, and there will be music from Helen Webby, Principal Harpist with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.
