Getty Images announces Grab New Zealand Photography Competition Winners

Auckland, New Zealand, 11 July 2012Getty Images today announced that Jamie Wright from Avondale, Auckland has been recognised as the winner of Grab New Zealand, a photography competition that gave enthusiasts the world over the opportunity to show off their visual definition of everyday life in New Zealand. Judged by a panel of some of New Zealand’s foremost photographers and industry experts, nearly 1600 images were submitted to showcase what makes New Zealand life unique.

The winning photograph, entitled “Parking Lot”, was taken at Hahei beach on The Coromandel Peninsula. It depicts a part of everyday life for local boating enthusiasts who, without a tractor, could not otherwise launch their boats on the soft sand. The winning photographer, Jamie Wright, comments “with fair weather, the beach quickly turns into a parking lot, making interesting photographs of tractors old and new, randomly aligned along the beach waiting for their owners to return from a day out at sea.”

The competition also recognises Mazdak Radjainia from Auckland as the runner up for capturing the powerful, raw beauty of New Zealand’s underwater world in his image taken outside the Hokianga entrance on the North Island. Overwhelmed by the high standard of entries, the judges acknowledged Célia Mendes’ landscape taken on the Diamond Lake Track in Wanaka and Nicolas Holzheu’s black and white image of skaters at Wellington’s 2009 Bowl-A-Rama with highly commended awards.
