What Rhymes with Wairarapa?

Wairarapa Poets take to the road on National Poetry Day this year. On Friday July 27, there will be poetry events nationwide, but the Wairarapa is the only place where a bunch of poets is going on a road trip to spread the word.

The five Wairarapa-based poets will be reading at free events at Carterton and Masterton libraries (at 10 and 12.15 am respectively), at Wairarapa College (2.05 pm - students only) and Aratoi (7 pm) . They are Pat White, John Horrocks, Mary McCallum, Bronwyn White and Jo Thorpe and all have published poetry books.

The poets hail from Cape Palliser to Masterton and Pat White says they offer a surprising range of poetry, 'We're reading poems ranging from the bucolic to the balletic, the liturgical to the literary, the rhyming to the free. People are bound to find something that appeals to them - and stimulates and moves them - maybe even makes them laugh. Poetry is never what you think it'll will be. We're encouraging people to come along for the ride and be prepared to be amazed.'

The poets are all practised poetry performers, and promise fun and interactive events that will suit all ages. And they say you should find out along the way what rhymes with Wairarapa.
