Stories of Independence
Stories of
Independence
/EVENT: 31 JULY 2012,
AUCKLAND
Amidst the excitement of the 2012 New
Zealand International Film Festival, we talk to three
Auckland-based filmmakers about making independent films
with a strong and truthful voice.
Alyx Duncan (The Red House), Adam Luxton and Jeremy Dumble (We Feel Fine) have
had their feature films selected to screen in this year’s
film festival. Confined to the constraints of
micro-budgets, these young filmmakers have kept their
stories close to home, driven to capture a truth about the
world that has shaped them.
Alyx Duncan’s The Red House is “an intimately
observed drama of change in the lives of a deeply attached
couple in their 60s”. The leads are her non-actor parents
and the film reveals a ” fundamental curiosity about human
life and society.” (Bill Gosden)
Jeremy Dumble and Adam
Luxton’s film We Feel Fine, starring Morgana
O’Reilly and The Almighty Johnsons’ Emmett
Skilton, is described by Bill Gosden as a “micro-budget,
made-on-the-dash art movie (that) tracks random sets of
Auckland characters linked by a bizarre video project”
with a “rude energy and sly disengagement from the
mainstream.”
Come along to hear the filmmakers talk to
director Briar March about the process behind
these distinctive films.
Stay afterward for a free slice of pizza and a drink.
Drinks 7pm, 7.30 start, Tuesday 31st July, The Classic, 321 Queen Street, Auckland, $5 koha appreciated.
This event is presented in association with the New Zealand International Film Festival.
