V8 SuperTourers appoints acting CEO

As part of its current ongoing structural re-organisation, which among other things will result in entrants taking a direct stake in the Category, V8 SuperTourers has appointed Didier Debae acting Chief Executive with immediate effect.

In addition to his existing role as Operations Manager, Didier assumes responsibility for public affairs and for all media comment for V8 SuperTourers and its championships and events.

Appointed Operations Manager on 26th June 2012, Didier has a wealth of contacts in the World and European Touring Car Championships, first as Williams Touring Car Team manager, and then as Opel’s DTM Sporting Director. These connections have already resulted in an upsurge in interest from European drivers in the V8 SuperTourer endurance championship, which starts with the Fathers Day 400 at Taupo on 1st and 2nd September.

Debae is confident of some high-profile European names joining the regular drivers for each of the three endurance races remaining this year. “Whilst money is certainly a factor, several of the potential European drivers we are talking to, are just as interested in competing here in New Zealand for the first time as they are in the their fee expectations,” said Debae.

“A couple of these potential drivers already know the Taupo circuit and New Zealand from their A1GP days and there is plenty of interest in competing in our Taupo event as well as the big one at Pukekohe and our grand finale at Ruapuna rounds,” he added.

Taupo driver line-ups are due to be revealed over the next few weeks.
