New Zealand launches writers’ walk in Frankfurt

New Zealand has this week launched a writers’ walk along the banks of the River Main in Germany to celebrate our Guest of Honour status at the next month’s Frankfurt Book Fair.

The walk comprises 19 ground posters and quotes from New Zealand authors.

The Frankfurt Walk replicates the Writers' Walk in Wellington where quotations are featured in sculptures along the waterfront.

The Frankfurt walk was opened by two New Zealand writers currently in residence at Frankfurt’s Weltkulturen Museum – Hamish Clayton and Tina Makereti. They will both produce writing in response to the museum’s collections.

Tina Makereti and Hamish Clayton are two of 66 New Zealand authors travelling to Germany as part of New Zealand’s programme at the book fair next month.

One of the writers whose quote is included in the Frankfurt writers’ walk and who will attend the book fair is poet Bill Manhire (“I live at the edge of the universe like everybody else”).

The launch of the Frankfurt writers’ walk coincides with the launch of a Wellington Writers Walk website. A phone App QR code on the Frankfurt posters links to the website.

New Zealand also has an extensive cultural programme at locations around Frankfurt including at the Weltkulturen Museum, the Frankfurter Kunstverein, the Film Museum and the English Theatre as well as at its 2500sq m Guest of Honour pavilion.
