Rally of the North supports Breast Cancer
Rally of the North are proud to support the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation’s annual collection along with competitor Melinda van Meygaarden.
Using the slogan ‘Breast in Class’, competitors, officials, service crews and general public will be able to purchase stickers for $10 each, with 100% of the donation going to the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation. This has been made possible with the assistance of General Signs, who are donating the stickers, and Digital Island NZ who are covering the cost of posting stickers to those not attending the event.
October is Breast Cancer Action Month, making the partnership with Rally of the North, which runs on Saturday 13 October, a perfect fit. Over the course of the day, local volunteers will collect money with the majority of fundraising to be done by van Meygaarden, who will co-drive in the event, prior to the event. Since the launch of the campaign earlier this week, well over $1000 has been raised.
For van Meygaarden, the fundraising has a personal connection. The North Shore resident is currently awaiting surgery after being diagnosed earlier in the year.
"In the grand scheme of things, I have been lucky. With the support of friends and family, I acted quickly and have been able to prevent a far more frightening future experience. I want to encourage other women to do that. I am very grateful for the support from the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation and want to ensure others continue to receive that support too."
“Since we launched the event on Facebook, the support has been amazing, but it is also incredible the amount of people with stories of loved ones who have suffered from breast cancer. I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn’t know someone affected by breast cancer.”
Rally of the North, which is supported by Tanoa Hotel in Paihia, runs on Saturday 13 October. Based from the tourist town of Paihia, the event covers four stages in the morning to the south-west before returning to the host city for a lunch-time service. A further four stages to the North of Paihia rounds out the afternoon before returning to the event finish, back in Paihia, after more than 10 hours on the road.
As well as support from Tanoa Hotel in Paihia, Rally of the North receives support from stage sponsors MRT Construction Ltd, Team Ralliart NZ, Rally Drive NZ, LJ Hooker Manurewa, Dunlop Motorsport Tyres and EcoLight.
