NZ/Hong Kong Feature To Screen at Antipodes Film Festival

News Release 4 October 2012

New Zealand/Hong Kong Feature Film Eternity To Screen In Competition At The Saint-Tropez Antipodes Film Festival

Eternity, a sci-fi mystery film by New Zealand director Alex Galvin, has won selection in competition for the 14th Saint-Tropez Antipodes Film Festival, which runs from 15-21 October 2012. It has also been chosen for the Cinema des Antipodes selection of Cannes Cinephiles (during Cannes Film Festival 2013).

Director Alex Galvin says, “Being selected for Saint-Tropez is a real honour and it’s the perfect setting for Eternity’s European premiere.”

Bernard Bories, President of the Antipodes Film Festival describes Eternity as, “A great and beautiful film, very cinematic and fascinating, quite magic.”

The Saint-Tropez screening in October will predate Eternity’s New Zealand Premiere, which is scheduled for 9 November. This will be a Red Carpet Premiere and Party at the historic Hawke’s Bay Opera House in Hastings, and will be part of the Hawke’s Bay inaugural Food & Wine Classic (FAWC).

Hastings Mayor Lawrence Yule says, "We would like to congratulate Alex Galvin and the production team for Eternity’s selection in competition at the French Cinema des Antipodes Film Festival, and looking forward to Eternity’s New Zealand red carpet premiere at the Hawke's Bay Opera House on
9 November."

Eternity is a sci-fi thriller set in the near future. A police detective, taking part in a computer simulation, must solve a seemingly impossible murder mystery to save his own life. Filming took place in Wellington, the Kapiti Coast, the Hawke’s Bay and in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong connection is particularly important given that this is the most recent film collaboration between New Zealand and Hong Kong/Asia. Not only were the key locations, cast and investment for the film drawn from both countries, but also post work was shared, with most of the post work being handled by Hong Kong Producer Eric Stark, the Director of Operations at Shaw Studios in Hong Kong.

Eternity is Alex Galvin’s second feature film and follows When Night Falls (2007), which was set and shot in the Wairarapa.

Two of the film’s other producers, Wellington lawyer Michael Stephens and Hawke’s Bay based entrepreneur Hal Josephson, have strong Hong Kong film connections. Stephens was also Executive Producer on When Night Falls.

Eternity is scheduled for cinematic distribution throughout New Zealand in early 2013 and tickets to the New Zealand premiere in Hastings on 9 November are available from: www.hawkesbayoperahouse.co.nz/whats-on/57-eternity.html or http://premier.ticketek.co.nz/shows/show.aspx?sh=ETERNITY12.
