The Mysterious Art of Casting - Writer's Room, October 30
The Mysterious Art of Casting - Writer's Room, October 30, Auckland
Casting is everything. If you get the right people they make you look good. – Tod Solondz
Everyone knows if you get the cast wrong you’re screwed. But how do you get it right?
Script to Screen presents a Writer's Room with Casting directors Tina Cleary (Boy, Top of the Lake, Emperor (NZ)) and Miranda Rivers (The Hobbit, Avatar (NZ), Home by Christmas) who travel from Wellington to delve into the art of casting.
Using specific examples, Tina and Miranda talk to director Peter Burger about their process and philosophy: from script analysis, auditions, and casting non-actors & children through to the casting director’s relationships with the director and producer.
This session is designed for writers, directors, producers and actors.
Stay afterward for a slice of pizza on us and a drink.
Drinks 7pm, 7.30 Start, Tuesday 30th October, The Classic, 321 Queen Street, Auckland, $5 koha appreciated.
It’s a risk casting anyone against type or what they’re known to do. But there’s one thing better than having a great actor, which is having a great actor who’s never done what you’re asking him to do. He’s hungry to get out of the trailer every day and hungry to test himself. – Sam Mendes
