M2 Competition Now the Team to Beat in 2014

After a dominant display in the 2013 Toyota Racing Series (TRS), Hamilton NZ based team M2 Competition, have in just three seasons demonstrated themselves as the team to beat in New Zealand’s premier single seater category.

Led by team principals Mark Pilcher and Jonathan Moury, the team dominated the second half of the 2013 season, securing six pole positions, six race wins, twenty podiums, taking out the drivers championship with New Zealand driver Nick Cassidy, the runner-up position with England’s Alex Lynn, and Dutch driver Steijn Schothorst finishing the series in fourth.

The winning results also saw M2 Competition take out the teams championship for 2013.

M2 Competition fielded five cars for the five round championship, with a sixth car competing in three out of the five rounds.

The team finished 2nd in the teams championship in 2012 and won a handful of races in the hands of Jordan King and Raffelle Marcello, the 2013 success coming in what is only the teams third year in the series.

“I think it was a break through year for us. We had an incredibly strong engineering department with half of our team coming down from Europe for the intensive 5-week race programme,” says Team Principal Mark Pilcher.

“We were clearly the strongest team in the series and we can comfortably say we are the new leaders of the category.”

Though the 2013 has only just ended, team principal Mark Pilcher says the team is already starting on its 2014 campaign.

“Our engineering group led by Jonathan Moury are already back in Europe and our 2014 driver search is underway. We already have strong interest from Norway’s Dennis Olsen and Steijn Schothorst to return for the 2014 season.”

“We’ll be looking to build on our 2013 performance and do even better in 2014.”

M2 Competition competed in the 2013 TRS season with the full support of Giltrap Group and SP Tools.
