Latest Television Funding Decisions

The Board of Te Māngai Pāho has announced their funding decisions from the third and final funding round for the 2012/2013 year.

Chief Executive, John Bishara acknowledges there will be considerable interest in one of the funded programmes, “The GC", which will screen on TV3 later this year.

Black Inc Media Ltd will receive $419,384 (plus GST) for the second series of “The GC” and Mr Bishara is confident this company will provide the Maori language and Maori cultural components TMP requires.

Mr Bishara said that Black lnc Media have a proven track of performance in delivering high quality programmes to mainstream broadcasters. While the show secured huge ratings for TV3 in its first series, more importantly for TMP was the fact that 92,000 Maori viewers followed the show.

“The show has a proven ability to attract a large Maori audience, particularly a young Maori audience. If “The GC” contributes to TMP’s aims and reaches our target audience, it would be hard to see why we would not grasp this opportunity" he said.

In pitching the new series to Te Māngai Pāho, the show’s producers (Black Inc Media Ltd) developed a Maori language plan which outlines clearly how they will achieve Maori language and cultural content throughout the programme.
