As part of UNESCO’s global celebrations of International Dance Day, YouthDance Education Trust is holding a day of FREE dance workshops and performances.

Celebrations have been held around the world since 1982 when UNESCO dedicated 29th April International Dance Day. This is the twelfth year the event is being held in Wellington. International Dance Day is well supported by the dance community and the event acknowledges the diversity of dance styles and civic pride in our multicultural city.

Welcome and warm-up 11am
Official welcome by Mayor Celia Wade-Brown
Wellington Community Choir will lead a warm up of singing and movement.

Workshops 11.45 – 2.25
Bollywood with Yaleney Sivapalan
Hip Hop with Braedyn Humphries
Sasa with Tupe Lualua
Cuban Salsa with Raphael Ferrer
Ceilidh with Kirsten Fergusson
Lion Dance with Brendan Ng
Madagascan with Lala Simpson
Maori Contemporary with Tanemahuta Gray

Performance 3.00 - 4.00pm
Performance on the marae by 10 community dance groups reflecting the rich cultural diversity of the Wellington region, including: Classical Indian, Highland Dance, Indonesian, Integrated Dance, Israeli Folk, Kapa Haka, Polish, Rwandan, Sasa and South American.
