Our apologies for the paucity of newsletters since March 22. Sail-World has been recovering from a very serious hacking attack, which came as we were upgrading to become a cloud-based website.
Fortunately we had in place certain process which meant that the website continued with only very minor outward issues, but our mail system has had to be rebuilt - which is at the heart of our newsletter production to our large subscriber base of over 85,000 sailors.
We have been very active on the water, with several image galleries in this edition from the Auckland Cup, the 420 Nationals, Etchells Evening Series, Auckland Tauranga Race and others.
As well we have all the news from around the world, including the AC72 action in San Francisco and Auckland.
There is a new set of Am-Cam videos from San Francisco of Oracle Team USA, doing two runs - we leave you to judge these. There are some parts of their performance which is very impressive, others need more work. We are hoping to have a major interview with Oracle Team USA on www.sail-world.com in a day or two.
The Auckland Cup was an excellent event, in our view - having been fortunate enough to be on the water for the final two days. There was come great racing from the quite diverse fleets covering sportsboats, one-designs, multihulls and the open keelboats. In this edition we have image galleries from both days.
Currently the third of the ISAF World Cupevents is underway in Palma, Spain. Sail-World has a team in Spain covering the event, which has attracted a fleet of 850 sailors.
We feature reports from the first two days of racing - including the international news coverage, image galleries and the reports from the NZL Sailing Team.
New Zealand is off to a good start in several classes. racing was blown out on the first day for the 49er classes - but on Day 2, the 49erFX crew turned in a good performance and lie in second overall. The Mens Laser and 470 have also turned in good opening races, but as we note in the reports, the points system has been changed to the old 49er system, where the qualifying rounds, just roll into a single place carried forward into the score for the latter part of the series.
Some don't like this system, but it does work well enough and rewards those who sail well at the end of the series against the top competition, rather than giving too much credit for the wins in the qualifying rounds against a seeded fleet.
We also feature the story of two World Champion sailors, Rick Dodson and David Barnes, who developed multiple sclerosis in the late 1990s and have now teamed up to compete in the three man Sonar class for a shot at the2016 Paralympics.
Although they have eight world championship wins and two America's Cup wins between them, neither has sailed at an Olympic Regatta and at the 2016 Paralympics will be endeavoring to make New Zealand sailing history by winning the nations first medal at the event.
They will be having a major fundraiser, details of which are in this issue - one of the prizes at auction will be a ride on Oracle Team USA's AC72. An experience that would be an every sailor's bucket list.

It has been another excellent day for the
NZL Sailing Team in Spain for ISAF Sailing World Cup Palma,
where Day 2's racing has concluded. Racing got underway in
the much talked about 49erFX women's skiff class, and kiwis
Alexandra Maloney and Molly Meech are lying second overall
after four races in the fleet of 34 boats.... [more]

New Zealand claims South Pacific title in
the Javelin class

This year, it was New Zealand's turn to host
the Interdominions in the 14-foot Javelin Skiff. The Bay of
Islands put on some superb racing conditions for the fleet
with sunny weather and anything between 5 and 18 knots of
wind. True to its purpose, the practice race was held in a
steady moderate breeze, and even Flying Circus made it

Etchells Tuesday Night Series: Valsheda
takes win from 15 boats

Auckland's long belt of sunny days and good
afternoon breezes have provided great sailing conditions for
the Auckland Etchells fleet. Well, it was a fitting end to
an excellent season with Valsheda taking a clean sweep in
perfect conditions and thereby hermetically sealing her

(Wakatere/Gendowie) and with Australia's Annabelle Davies

Oracle Team USA's revamped AC72 USA-17 was
videoed again by an independent cameraman who captured the
AC72 training on San Francisco Bay, this time in a series of
seven videos covering two runs and a gybe. In the set,
Oracle Team USA has an interesting day foiling showing a
reasonable level of control, but not at the level of

World Championships, now Paralympians, have joined forces to
in a campaign to win a Gold medal in the 2016 Paralympics.
To raise finance for their campaign in the three man Sonar
class, two of the adversaries in the 2013 America's Cup
Regatta, Sir Russell Coutts and Grant Dalton will speak at a
dinner in Auckland where a ride on an AC72 will be

Greenpeace yacht restored and relaunched in
Auckland

The former Greenpeace vessel Vega has been
relaunched at Westpark Marina after an extensive 10 month
refit. Initially just out for a repaint by Jason Hamilton
and Global Yacht Finishers, it was soon apparent that more
work was needed. The whole cabin top was replaced along with
all 36 cabin side bolts. The interior was also extensively
modified while the deck hatches, skylight and

Auckland Tauranga Race starts in very light
winds - follow on tracker

The Auckland to Tauranga race started off
the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, on Thursday morning,
in very light winds. The outgoing tide was a major challenge
for the competitors forcing then to congregate to the west
of Auckland Harbour Bridge, before using the tide to cross

Emirates Team NZ wrapped up their Friday
training session with a series of windward leewards inside
Rangitoto Light at the entrance to the Waitemata Harbour.
The session and crew-work, in particular, was very
impressive and slick. There was not enough wind to make
foiling viable at the bottom of the course, with the
rounding mark again 200 metres off Narrowneck Beach....
