We are pleased to present the opening of painting exhibition “New Zealand Paintings” By Yukari Kaihori, on view from mid April 2013 at YOYO Furniture Wellington. YOYO Furniture provides a stage for Kiwi Furniture, Home Accessories and Lighting design to shine! This exhibition is Yukari’s first show at YOYO Furniture, following a successful one-person exhibition at Thistle Hall earlier this year.
Using oil paint like water color, Yukari tells visual stories, often reconstructing scenes she encounters in the forests and mountains. The captured sceneries go through metamorphosis; the environment we live in is fragile and ephemeral in nature. Her approach to image-making negotiates a balance between the time and physicality of the worlds.
Yukari is originally from Japan. She studied Studio Art at University in Oregon. She interned in New York under artist, Sigrid Burton, before returning to Japan for several years. She went onto University of the Arts, London to expand the knowledge in mix painting media as well as ceramics. In recent years, she has chosen Wellington to be the base for her studio as the city's surrounding nature attracts and inspires her deeply.
