Script to Screen Killer Films Internship Scholarship

Script to Screen announces 2013 Killer Films Internship Scholarship recipient - Sally Tran

Script to Screen is delighted to announce writer/director Sally Tran has been awarded the 2013 Killer Films Internship Scholarship, which will see her trading a NZ winter for a busy summer in NYC in the development department of leading indie film production company, Killer Films.

Her experience will be covered by blogs available on the Script to Screen website.

The panel of industry selectors would also like to acknowledge filmmakers Zoe McIntosh and Yamin Tun who were finalists for this year's scholarship.

"It was great to see talented people coming forward, any number of whom we would have been proud to send to Killer Films. Sally Tran had the edge though – I love the idiosyncratic nature of her work and feel her time in New York will help her find where it fits in the international industry." - selector Fiona Copland, NZ Producer.

Killer Films, led by producers Christine Vachon and Pam Koffler, is at the forefront of independent American cinema and is responsible for a long list successful films including Kids, Happiness and I’m Not There. Over the past two years, Killer has managed to produce 12 features despite the tough economic environment, including the recent Sundance hit Kill Your Darlings, and Magic Magic, which has been selected to screen at Director's Fortnight at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.

"We're thrilled to once again partner with Script to Screen/NZ and invite the winner of their scholarship to join us this summer. It's an incredibly fruitful exchange that lets us get to know new, talented filmmakers and help them learn about U.S. indie producing." - David Hinojosa, Head of Development, Killer Films.

We are also delighted to welcome on board a new sponsor, visual content company Thick As Thieves, who are getting behind this scholarship to support emerging New Zealand talent.

"Thick as Thieves are delighted to be a part of making the Killer Films Internship possible. We are committed to supporting emerging talent and we believe that this internship represents a phenomenal opportunity for our young filmmakers." - Nik Beachman, Executive Producer, Thick As Thieves.

The Killer Films Internship Scholarship has been running since 2009 and would not be possible without the continued support of the New Zealand Film Commission.

Script to Screen is a charitable trust with the mandate to develop the craft and culture of storytelling for the screen in Aotearoa New Zealand.
