Jimi Hocking to headline the Rotorua Blues Festival
The Rotorua Blues Festival
Multi award winning guitarist, Jimi Hocking, will headline the 2013 Rotorua Blues Festival.
Queen’s Birthday weekend and Blues once again go hand in hand in downtown Rotorua for the annual ‘Rotorua Blues Festival’. Presented by the Bay of Plenty Blues Club, the six day programme includes the popular Blues Cruise (Saturday and Sunday), youth guitar seminar and workshop, and Saturday 'Streat Party'. A great selection of blues bands will be located in various bars and cafes throughout Rotorua’s restaurant precinct over the holiday weekend. Entry to all downtown bars and cafes is free of charge. The festival winds up on Monday with a blues jam session.
Headline act from Melbourne, Australia is multi award winning guitarist, Jimi Hocking. Hocking has toured extensively throughout Australia and the USA. In 2005 he won the prestigious ‘International Blues Challenge’, held annually in Memphis Tennessee. Looking back on his long history you find that in his earlier years he was a guitarist for hire, working with big name like ‘The Angels’ and ‘The Screaming Jets’. Jimi features both electric & acoustic guitars plus mandolin. A must see artist.
More acts are being booked and will be announced in due course.
A Saturday afternoon ‘Streat Party’ on “Eat Streat” – Rotorua’s restaurant precinct – is a ‘family friendly’ event, and always attracts a large audience. This show features some of the festivals’ headline acts plus a special ‘youth’ component to inspire our young musicians.
Rotorua’s stern-wheel paddle driven boat, the Lakeland Queen, will again feature in the festival with two shows over the weekend, with Jimi Hocking performing on one of them. Party along with the blues of festival headline acts while enjoying hospitality from the onboard bar. Tickets will be available from the Lakeland Queen and online at eventfinder.co.nz. Last year’s Blues Cruises sold out, so early booking is recommended.
