The Vapour EP: Press Release - The Basement Tapes
The Vapour EP
The Basement Tapes is a Producer/Songwriter from New Zealand who mixes both electronic sampling with live instruments. Little is known about The Basement Tapes, the moniker of an anonymous Producer and that’s part of the allure of his music. The Vapour EP incorporates modern Electronica and Hip Hop beats with soulful pop infused vocals.
Production started on the EP in December 2012 and during this period The Basement Tapes wrote and produced over 50 tracks but managed to scale it down to the final 6. Hip Hop Producers RJD2 and Madlib were influences in the beat making of the EP, while influences from other Electronic Dance Music and Pop artists lead to the experimentation with female vocalists.
“The sounds spiral into a series of interlocking rhythms, they build in complexity, energy and natural funk.” – Martin Pepperell.
“Soulful electronica, with garage influenced percussion, a warm melody and an RnB tinged vocal sample. Keep an eye out for The Basement Tapes, one to watch.” JAC Department Blog.
