Fieldays Rural Bachelors are on the move

Hold onto your hats ladies, the Fieldays Rural Bachelors have hit the road and may be passing through a town near you on their journey to Fieldays HQ.

The action adventure Amazing Race format means that Rural Bachelors are deciphering clues in Heartland New Zealand, scoring points on challenges and winning many hearts along the way as they make their way to their final destination.

Never fear ladies – the boys are keeping us up to date with progress as they tweet and post from their new Samsung Rugged S4 mobile phones, thanks to Vodafone.

Landing in Wellington yesterday, the single studs were paired up, given clues to get to their first destination and handed over a set of keys, which led teams to a new Kea 2 Berth Campervan – the ultimate in deluxe transportation – which will see these bachelors experience the Kiwi terrain in uber comfort and style throughout the competition - whether they’re on the move, parked up for a cuppa or chilling out at Fieldays Bachelor Base Camp.

To give the Aussies a fair go, each was paired up with one of our Kiwi blokes to help them navigate their way through the foreign terrain.

Team Rimu; Dan and Simon, hit the ground running thanks to some slick travel arrangements – the first to pick up their mint wheels to charge out of the capital city and out to the countryside.

Team Totara; Fergus and Sam as well as Team Kauri; Tom and Andrew, were next to get going with the final duo, Southerners Glen and Monty (Team Nikau) coming up the rear.

All teams made it to the first challenge destination – The Rugby Museum of New Zealand, located in Palmerston North, in good time.

The atmosphere was all hands to the pump to complete the physical and mental tasks in good time according to Museum Spokesman Stephen Berg, to prove to the ladies that these Rural Bachelors are a smooth combination of brains and brawn.

“First to arrive was Team Rimu. Simon was all business wearing his All Blacks jersey, so I had high expectations for him on completing the 30 trivia questions as well as the physical tasks, he was great and totally nailed it.

“All up the teams probably spent around 40 minutes working on the trivia questions and ten completing the physical challenges, swapping with each other to get back to the trivia once a physical task had been completed.

“I was really impressed with the boys’ ‘have a go’ attitude, it made for a really fun atmosphere, especially when Team Totara and Team Kauri arrived at the same time – they really egged each other on.

“Although, one of the Aussie blokes found the kicking a bit challenging, he got there in the end – but jeepers it wasn’t his day and the ball was going everywhere, left and right…

The physical challenges the bachelors took on at the NZ Rugby Museum, inspired by our national game included; sprinting 7m in under 1.85seconds, doing a standing jump for the lineout at least 2.8m high, pushing more than 220kgs on a scrum machine, making two tackles on tackle bags within 8 seconds and finally, kicking three goals in a row.

When asked about who to watch out for in the contest for the Fieldays Golden Gumboot trophy, Stephen said they were all top quality blokes;

“All of them will be good catches for the ladies. With all that rugby knowledge what lady can resist?

Back on the road, the bachelors found themselves once again facing challenges at the Waiouru Army Museum, before tucking in for the night in the comfort of their Kea Campervan in Turangi.

This morning the Fieldays Rural Bachelors set off again. Be sure to clock in to their social media pages and twitter feeds to keep in the loop. The next destination could be near you and it’s sure to be a wild ride.
