Most Acclaimed Pianist of Her Generation Steps in to Dance

Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra regrets to announce the cancellation of pianist Sergio Tiempo due to illness. Mr Tiempo was scheduled to appear with the orchestra this Thursday 20 June.

Mr Tiempo was to perform Liszt’s Totentanz in the Bayleys Great Classics concert ‘Dance’, and has expressed his disappointment and offered his apologies to Auckland audiences, many of whom will remember well his performance with the APO in 2011.

The APO wishes Sergio Tiempo the very best for a speedy recovery.

We are, however, delighted to announce that Tamara Anna Cislowska has agreed to step in at late notice for Thursday’s concert.

Recognised as the most acclaimed and awarded Australian pianist of her generation, Ms Cislowska possesses a “...a fiery and extremely agile technique...a demonic attack and greatest command over virtuosic textures...” (Sydney Morning Herald), and her playing was called “a shining exception...skilful and poetic” by the London Times.

Ms Cislowska has an enviably broad repertoire under her fingers, including Totentanz, and she has recorded several Liszt solo pieces for the Artworks label.

“No one likes to lose an artist to illness; we feel terribly sorry for Sergio Tiempo and hope to see him back here soon,” says APO Chief Executive Barbara Glaser. “However, concertgoers around the world recognise that Tamara is an exceptional pianist, and the fact that she is willing and able to step in and perform a work like Totentanz tells us a lot about the woman and the musician.”
