Duco reaction to Monte Barrett

EXCLUSIVE

By Matheson Sports Media

DAVID Higgins has dismissed Monte Barrett’s latest criticisms of David Tua as the “ramblings of a desperate man.”

Barrett is the only man to have been inside the ropes with both Tua and his Hyrd8 ZERO David v Goliath opponent – the giant Russian contender Alexander Ustinov.

The American – who went the distance with Ustinov in 2009 and who has a draw and a win against Tua – said the match up is a bad one for Tua because, despite his size, Ustinov moves well and fights tall.

And in an interview with Boxing Insider he labelled Duco Events bosses David Higgins and Dean Lonergan as “Dumb and Dumber” and accused Tua’s promoters of throwing him to the wolves for a nothing but a pay day.

“These guys will get Tua beat,” Barrett said. “They don’t care about him.”

When told of the comments, Higgins laughed off the criticism.

“I don’t know why people give Monte oxygen in the media,” Higgins told Matheson Sports Media.

“He’s rambling because he’s desperate.

“He would do anything to have a third fight against David Tua.

“But it is impossible to promote Monte Barrett because he lost all credibility in the boxing world the day that Shane Cameron knocked him out...”
