Australian Actor David Wenham Joins Big Screen Symposium

Australian Actor David Wenham (Lord of the Rings, 300, Top of the Lake) Joins Big Screen Symposium Line-up
AUCKLAND, NZ [July 24, 2013] The Big Screen Symposium is excited to welcome prolofic Australian actor David Wenham to an incredible line-up of international speakers. Wenham will be giving an In Conversation session with Robyn Malcolm (Outrageous Fortune), and delivering a 90-minute session for actors at this year’s Big Screen Symposium.
David Wenham has an extensive range of acting experience, spanning films, television series, musicals and theatre productions. He is well known for his roles as Faramir in The Lord of the Rings films, Carl in Van Helsing, and Dilios in the action-epic 300, all starring alongside a slew of Hollywood actors.
Wenham also stars in the 2013 BBC miniseries Top of the Lake as New Zealand detective Al Parker, alongside Elisabeth Moss. The series is written and created by Jane Campion and Gerard Lee, and filmed and set in New Zealand, as well as produced by Philippa Campbell, who will also be delivering a 90-minute session at the Big Screen Symposium.
Top of the Lake earned international acclaim since premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in January. The miniseries is currently nominated for 8 Emmy Awards including Outstanding TV Miniseries or Movie, Outstanding Casting for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special, and Outstanding Directing for a Miniseries, Movie or A Dramatic Special.
Most recently David directed the short film Commission featuring Hugo Weaving and Josh McConville. Comission will screen as part of the feature film collaboration of iconic Australian writer Tim Winton’s The Turning. Other contributors include Cate Blanchett, Rose Byrne, Miranda Otto, Richard Roxburgh, Simon Stone, Robyn Nevin and Mia Wasikowska.
David Wenham will be a great addition to the inspiring line-up of speakers at this year’s Big Screen Symposium, including Australian musical talent Cezary Skubiszewski (The Sapphires, Red Dog), writer/director Rolf de Heer (Ten Canoes, Bad Boy Bubby), South Korean director Park Chan-wook (Oldboy, Stoker), Australian writer Andrew Bovell (Strictly Ballroom Lantana), and award-winning Mexican screenwriter, author, director and producer Guillermo Arriaga (21 Grams, Babel) as keynote speaker.
