Marvelous mums flounce for fashion fundraiser

• Ronald McDonald House Auckland hosts charity fundraiser – 10 August

25 July 2013, Auckland – A group of amazing mothers are giving back to the charity that helped them when their family needed it most. Overcoming a few nerves, towering heels and the flash of lights they will be taking to the catwalk for fun-filled charity fundraiser.

The mothers come from diverse backgrounds, ranging from a PhD student to a sports administrator to full time mums, but one thing they all have in common is that their families were supported by Ronald McDonald House Auckland when their children were receiving treatment at Starship National Childrens’ Hospital.

“The generosity and endless support of all the people at the House was overwhelming. Being able to be close to our son Noah who was being treated for a heart defect made a tremendous difference to his recuperation. Now we have another chance to give something back and I’ve leapt at the chance to be part of this fantastic, encouraging event,” says Cindy Paggao, Ronald McDonald House mother and debut model.

Some of the other “House Mothers” are a little shy and confess to a few nerves already. While others are self-professed “low maintenance and more comfortable in trainers than heels” but are using it as an excuse to “glam up” for the evening and give something back to the charity that gave their families a home away for home when they needed it.

The fashion show event will be held in Auckland on Saturday 10th August and will showcase collections from boutique and high street fashion stores for fashionistas of all ages. Accompanying the debut-modeling mums will be celebrity models and guests will also enjoy canapés and drinks on arrival, a performance by the Xtreme Rhythm dance group and Samoan culture group LA-FUZE Siva Crew, plus the chance to be a water boy or girl at an All Blacks training session.

In addition, Kathryn Wilson will premier her new children’s range - Little Miss Wilson, which will be modeled by 5-11year old students from Victoria Ave School in Remuera.

“The children absolutely love dancing and modeling in front of an audience and it’s wonderful to see them thinking of others. This is a perfect opportunity for the children that I teach to help other children and make a difference, in a fun and confidence boosting way.

“My twin nieces spent a lot of time in Ronald McDonald House, which makes it even more real for me and worthwhile running the show,” says event organiser and Victoria Ave School teacher Maree Harris.

Wayne Howett, Ronald McDonald House Auckland CEO is hugely grateful for the support. “We can’t thank our supporters and sponsors enough for everything they’ve given. Especially BMW Team McMillan who have been incredibly generous covering the costs of the event. It costs us 4.5 million year to operate the 80 room accommodation facilities and family room inside Starship itself. This tremendous community support means we can continue helping families from all over New Zealand and never have to turn away a family.”

Tickets for the event on the 10th August are $75 for an adult or $30 for a child and can be purchased at ticketmasterco.nz. For more information visit www.rmhauckland.org.nz
