Rally Wairarapa See Last Minute Change
The Trusthouse Racetech Rally Wairarapa has seen a last minute change to the competition route, following concerns raised by the Tararua District Council.
With road closure not being granted on some of the anticipated competition roads, the organisers have worked with both the Tararua and Masterton District Councils to develop an alternative. The end result being a loss of only 28km of competition distance, retaining 134km to test the driver’s skills over some of the favourite stages in the region.
“We remain indebted to the Tararua and Masterton District councils for their continued support and acknowledgement of the benefits the rally brings to the community,” says organising committee secretary Bruce Sollitt. “We understand that the councils need to balance residents concerns with the benefits of staging events like this, so we are pleased that we are still able to provide a fantastic event, of the standard expected for a national championship round”.
The event will retain its servicing base in Eketahuna, with the stages now centring on a loop to the south east of the township. The challenging first two stages from last year’s event, Homewood and Castlehill also remain unaffected. The end result being that the event is now a little more compact, with a consequent reduction in the touring between some stages.
The updated documentation and rally map is now available from the event web site www.rallywairarapa.co.nz, giving competitors, spectators, officials and others the information needed to adjust their plans.
