THE LETTER By Zoe Moon – A New Chapter From One Of Aotearoa’s Most Captivating Voices

Aotearoa, New Zealand – Wellington-based artist Zoe Moon returns with her third solo single, THE LETTER, dropping 31 May 2025.

Blending soul, R&B, and gospel influences, the track is a heartfelt meditation on kinship, closure, and letting go.

Written during the stillness of an early morning in 2019, THE LETTER captures the quiet unraveling of a relationship weighed down by family ties and unspoken hurts. Rooted in the gospel tradition of redemption through song, THE LETTER offers an intimate journey through the complexities of family.Through sweeping harmonies and hymn-like instrumentation, Moon’s remarkable ability to embody both pain and peace renders the track a powerful testament to hope and Black joy.

“For the first time, I’ve released a track that connects explicitly to the music that shaped my family’s story — a sound that held us together and carried us forward,” says the artist, who carries forward the spirit of her father, the renowned blues musician Taj Mahal.

The third solo single emerges from the tension of inheritance — from a Black spiritual lineage often distilled into gospel and soul, yet commodified and estranged in its journey. Moon’s composition pushes back on the flattening of Black culture into palatable spiritual clichés like 'neo soul' — reclaiming personal history and community sound as sites of self-definition.

THE LETTER is now available on all major streaming platforms.
