The Magazine Cover Of The Year Awards Shortlist Announced!

The Magazine Cover Of The Year Awards Shortlist Announced!

Auckland, 16th September 2013 – While golf player, Adam Scott, roars from the cover of New Zealand Golf Magazine after finally winning a major, and Idealog challenges us to “Untangle your ideas”, Spoke magazine’s cover dramatically features the challenge between man and mountain.

The cold, hard steel of a renewable energy plant and a “Lovers & dreamers” bride stares seductively into the camera as they battle it out for Best Specialist Cover, while the mouth-watering burger on the cover of Dish tempts us with a sensory overload.

These are just some of the images that are in the running to win the Best Magazine Cover in their respective categories, plus the coveted Magazine Cover of the Year Award in this year’s 2013 consumer awards, The Maggies.

New Zealand’s leading online magazine and newspaper subscription business, iSUBSCRiBE, today announced the shortlist for its annual publishing awards. This national poll celebrates and awards the best covers over the next five weeks as the voting goes live at www.themaggies.co.nz

A panel of industry heavyweights gathered to select a shortlist of 5 covers per category from the nominated entries. This panel included:

• Leonie Barlow, Journalist and Editor, www.thestyleinsider.co.nz
• Andrew Burge, CEO & Founder of iSUBSCRiBE Pty Ltd
• Jude Dobson, TV Presenter and Producer
• Rachel Glucina, New Zealand Herald Columnist
• Katrina Horton, Commercial Director, Magazine Publishers Association New Zealand
• Paula Ryan, founder of Fashion Quarterly and Simply You and winner of the MPA Lifetime Achievement Award 2010

Katrina Horton, Commercial Director of the Magazine Publishers Association New Zealand, said, “The finalists in this year’s Maggies clearly show the diversity inherent in our industry, and the excellence that is at the heart of our publishers. Small or large, magazines continue to showcase beautiful, often strikingly evocative images, which, when combined with powerful, emotionally engaging content, keep our readers coming back again and again.”

The overall winner and individual category winners will be announced late October 2013.

The public will be incentivised to vote for their favourite magazine cover with a reward of a $5 iSUBSCRiBE gift voucher. The voucher may be redeemed against iSUBSCRiBE’s entire range of over 400 magazine subscriptions. In addition, $1 from every subscription sold using the iSUBSCRiBE gift vouchers will be donated to Plunket, New Zealand’s largest provider of support services for the development, health and wellbeing of children under five.
