Capital E’s Queen of Clean Set to Wow Australian Audiences

Capital E National Theatre for Children’s work Ivy Saviour of the Dinosaur prepares to head to Australia to delight overseas audiences in 2013.

Capital E has recently announced that the family favourite, Ivy Saviour of the Dinosaur, will be performing for the first time in Australia at the Awesome Arts Festival in Perth and for a season in Mandurah. Since bursting onto the Wellington theatre scene in 2012, Ivy Saviour of the Dinosaur has delighted young audiences at festivals across New Zealand.

In 2013 the production presented in Wanaka at the Festival of Colour, completed a season at Downstage Theatre in Wellington and at Taranaki and Christchurch Festivals.

“This is a tour de force performance by Jennifer Martin that captivates audiences of all ages,” explains Creative Producer, Stephen Blackburn. “We’re passionate about providing children with the very best creative talent New Zealand has to offer.”

“Extending our domestic tour market into Australia gives us a fantastic scope of opportunity to present New Zealand theatre to young audiences internationally which we have been achieving on a regular basis over the past 10 years.”

Founded in 1997, Capital E National Theatre for Children has been creating and presenting theatre works designed especially for children and touring two works annually to an audience of around 50,000 per year. It was in her final year of Toi Whakaari:NZ Drama School that Jennifer Martin created the character of Ivy as part of the Go Solo season where students were required to write and perform a twenty minute show from scratch.

It was after seeing a performance of this solo work that Stephen Blackburn approached Martin and Ivy Saviour of the Dinosaur was born.

“We’re very proud of Ivy and where she’s going,” says Blackburn. “We strongly feel this is only the beginning for this work on the international stage.”
