CanTeen pedal to success with the support of Carlton Party Hire.

As part of their community relationships and fundraising calendar in Auckland one of CanTeen’s major annual fundraiser events is The Crank.

“Working in partnership with Carlton Party Hire we hosted on September 13th a mass participation day of RPM indoor cycling called The Crank,” says Mr David Pearce, chief executive of CanTeen. Over 1,000 people joined in teams or rode as individuals in a 12 hour RPM relay.

CanTeen is a Not for Profit community service organisation who support young people (aged 13-24) living with cancer. Living with cancer in this context applied to patients, their siblings and also bereaved siblings. “CanTeen is all about helping young people get through what is a very difficult time. They are fighting a life threatening illness and all the stresses and strains that places on the patient, siblings and family. We show them they are not alone,” says David Pearce.

“Carlton Party Hire kindly donated the free hire of tables and chairs for the event. That equipped the participant registration, help desk and late entries area as well as a large area of round tables where riders could relax with their team mates as they awaited their turn to ride,” says Mr Pearce.

The Carlton Party Hire-provided equipment was a key part of Relax, refuel, Refresh zone of The Crank 2013.

“Throughout the day we had 100 riders peddling their hearts out (rotating on the hour) and well over 200 people there supporting their buddies or just enjoying the energy of the occasion,” says Mr Pearce.

The money raised from The Crank will go a long way to helping CanTeen continue to provide their valuable services. “It simply would not have been possible to achieve such a positive financial outcome without the support of organisations like Carlton Party Hire who offered their services or resources free of charge,” says Mr Pearce.

CanTeen is 25 years old, has 14 branches throughout New Zealand and through these directly supports 1605 members.

Through CanTeen services, all funded by the community, they have people alongside them who understand what they are going through, and who become an enormous second family to rely on. “Our secret weapon is that of peer support where young people who have travelled the same journey stand alongside one another and help each other to find comfort and hope,” says Mr Pearce.

“We are equally proud of the services we provide our members and we are extremely proud of the community partners, like Carlton Party Hire, who like us, show our members that they are not alone,” says Mr Pearce.
