Sixteen Candles at The Classic!
Sixteen Candles at The
Classic!
NZ’s home of live comedy
celebrates 16 years on Queen St with a ‘month of it’ in
MOCKtober featuring over 30 live shows and up to 100
comedians.
The Classic opened its doors
for business in October 1997. Sixteen years later and it’s
still here, staging over 400 live comedy events per year, up
to 6 nights a week.
As well as
regularly hosting many of ‘New Zealand’s most famous
comedians’, a phrase unheard of back in 1997, the Classic
is also responsible for developing a whole new generation of
professional entertainers.
Over 100
rookies have actually given it a go during the last year and
about 40% remain ‘in
training’.
During MOCKtober, the
Classic will be staging over 30 live shows celebrating
different levels of comedians.
The main
event each weekend at 8pm will feature the return of many of
our ‘Comedy All-stars’ including Mike King,
Jeremy Corbett, Dai Henwood, Ewen Gilmour, Ben Hurley,
Michele AÇourt, Andrew Clay, Jan Maree and
more.
Thursday nights in MOCKtober will
showcase the ‘Next Generation’ of professionals
including ‘ones to watch ‘ like Tim Batt, Nick Gibb, Eli
Matthewson, Mo Kheir, Pax Assadi, John Carr, Jamaine Ross ,
Tom Furniss and many more.
Other
regular shows in MOCKtober include Raw Comedy on Monday,
fresh comedy on Big Wednesdays and the Late & Live shows on
the weekend.
We wrap up MOCKtober with
the traditional annual Labour Weekend showcase of New
Pro’s who have emerged in 2013.
