Museum lights up to welcome Emirates Team NZ home
Red, white and black will be the Auckland War Memorial Museum’s new lighting colour scheme for the next three nights as the country welcomes Emirates Team New Zealand home.
The exterior of Auckland War Memorial Museum will be lit in Emirates Team New Zealand colours for the next three nights to celebrate the return of the team from their America’s Cup campaign.
From today, 30 September to Wednesday 2 October, the building will be lit from sunset at 7.30pm till 9.30pm in a combination of red, black and white. From 9.30pm until midnight will be lit red till dawn.
Auckland Museum Director Roy Clare said: “Throughout the America’s Cup, Kiwis have been engrossed by this contest, watching it unfold and cheering on the team. We were rewarded by a display of huge character, skill, seamanship and innovation from our team.”
“Our museum is home to collections that are testament to our history. This was a historic contest and we’re recognising that with the team colours projected across our building from tonight.”
The exterior of Auckland Museum is lit for important civic, national and cultural moments in the life of New Zealand and Auckland, as one of ways the museum helps position Auckland as a vibrant and compelling place to live or visit.
