Havelock North Wanderers Football Club announces its “Raise the Roof" fundraiser.
Havelock North Wanderers Football Club, the largest club in Hawke’s Bay, is announcing plans to increase the size of the Club rooms and the grounds.
On Friday 25th October the Club is delighted to host some of the Wellington Phoenix players who will be joining our junior coaching session as well as supporting the “Raise the Roof" fundraising initiative.
HNWAFC has been operating at Guthrie Park since 1988. As a result of a strong membership base and the green light from the Hastings District Council, the club is extending the size of its football fields as well as going up a level at the clubrooms.
Club President, Richard Williams, says Havelock North has seen phenomenal growth over the last five years with new families relocating to the district and the club has seen a steady increase in new members.
“The football club is a community in itself with people making long term friendships as well as playing football there; we are delighted to be able to embark on this fundraising initiative to support the community.”
“We need the support of local businesses to achieve our goal of raising the roof as building is costly and we want to do it properly so it can last for years to come,” said Mr Williams.
It is hoped the Club will raise $250,000.00 to support the raising of the roof initiative. A trust fund has been created to protect the money before construction gets underway.
Architectural drawings have been decided upon and now it’s a matter of going through the motions with Council to get approval.
“We have a strong network at the Club and people are keen to support in whatever way they can in the new building project.” Mr Williams said.
“Having some of the Phoenix players here to kick off the fundraising initiative is fantastic for the Club and shows that football playing is alive and well here in the Bay,” said Mr Williams.
The Phoenix are here for the big game against the Newcastle Jets at McLean Park on Sunday 27th October, details of the game and tickets can be purchased from www.ticketdirect.co.nz
The
junior coaching for 8-14 year olds kicks off at 4pm and the

25th October. Sign up for coaching at www.hnwafc.org.nz,
