Lightfoot ecstatic with another podium
Mike ‘Buzz’ Lightfoot has created a tighter grip on second place with a podium finish at the penultimate round of the UDC V8 Ute series, held at Hampton Downs over the weekend.
Looking for a good run, Lightfoot was provisionally leading the opening practise session, only to spin off the final corner and hit the tyre wall and eventually slipped to third place.
Qualifying saw Lightfoot again on the pace, setting a fast time early to sit the Precision Racing Ford Ute in third place. The opening race 10 minutes later saw Lightfoot drive a sensible race to maintain his third place.
The following day, Lightfoot drew grid seven for the second race but having made a strong start, moved forward early to fifth place, then took advantage of a mistake ahead of him to slip into second place. Having defended for the majority of the race from Matt Gibson, Lightfoot was beaten in a drag race to the line, taking another third place finish.
Race three saw a reverse of the marble draw which saw Lightfoot starting from fifth place and again made a good start to move into third place by the end of the opening lap, then moving up to second place the following lap. Around the halfway point, Lightfoot took his opportunity to take the race lead, clearing away to take a comfortable race win.
Starting from third place for the final race of the weekend, Lightfoot got a good start to hold third place for the whole race, also wrapping up third place for the round.
“It was a great weekend for us and I’m really happy with the result,” says Lightfoot. “Now we are in a really good place to take second place for the season at the final round.
Lightfoot heads to Pukekohe on November 29 for the series finale in a strong position to wrap up second overall for the season.
