New National MTB Points calender

New National MTB Points calender

The NZ MTB Crown brings together Enduro, XC and DH mountain bike riders, providing NZ rankings from almost all MTB events throughout New Zealand.

"My hope is that the NZ MTB Crown will get people more excited about grass roots racing and that it will become a valuable resource for the entire kiwi MTB community," says Kashi Leuchs, the former MTB Olympian who is behind the project. The vast majority of events in the country have already agreed to be part of the NZ MTB Crown, a sign that there is widespread support for the concept.

The NZ Crown website, launched recently, features a comprehensive events calendar, results, rider profiles and rankings. The rankings can be sorted by discipline, or by age category, or by overall.

"We can see this website offering a huge benefit to New Zealand riders and events. The idea of offering a ranking for multi-disciplines is great, because it will encourage riders to compete in disciplines they would not usually try. For young riders to develop well, we believe it is best for them to race in all three disciplines rather than get too serious in one or another too early" says Jordon Moss, president of the national mountain bike association, MTBNZ

A celebratory party will be held at the end of the season in Queenstown as part of the the Queenstown Bike Festival with prizes awarded to the winners from every age category, in each discipline and overall. Regular spot prizes will also be drawn from those who have entered their profile details onto the website.

As well as personal rankings, riders can enter their club and bike brand details, which then means their points go towards club/team and bike brand rankings as well, giving even more incentive to get out there and race more!
