On the eve of the opening round of the South Island Endurance Motor Racing Series at Teretonga Park in Invercargill recently a large crowd gathered for a night of celebration at the southern city's magnificent Bill Richardson Truck Museum.

The reason for the gathering was the launch of a new product, one very relevant to the needs of competitors in the series.

Mobil 1 has a history of four decades of involvement in motorsport on a global stage in disciplines as demanding and prestigious as NASCAR, Formula 1 and V8 Supercars to name just a few.  Likewise, Allied Lubricants, as the local distributor of Mobil Lubricants, looks to sponsor ‘interesting motorsport’ in New Zealand – this includes Mobil 1 sponsorship of the South Island Endurance Series.  This series has provided a great opportunity to launch Mobil 1 Racing 0W-50 in New Zealand, with the product being taken up by many of the competitors involved in this exciting series.

Mobil 1 Racing 0W-50 is designed for professional and amateur racing - it's not for street use. It's benefits include boosted anti wear which helps protect engines during gruelling race applications while reduced internal friction helps maximise power. The new product possesses outstanding shear ability and a robust additive package to reduce oil breakdown while a wide viscosity range helps faster flow to critical engine parts at low temperatures. It also provides exceptional high temperature protection even in excess of 200 degrees Celsius.

While it could be construed that a business involvement in motorsport could be equated to an exercise in brand promotion, in Mobil's case they have recognised the value of working closely with constructors and teams in order to develop excellent products.  What better place to advance oil performance than by partnering with pursuits that place engines and vehicles in the most extreme operating conditions.

Racing is a ‘game of inches’, and Mobil has become a vital technology partner to many in this game. One man who knows and appreciates this is Steve Hallam, the Managing Director of the Holden Racing Team and a strong advocate of Mobil 1. Steve was a special, and extremely popular, guest speaker on the night and his journey through multiple motor racing codes proved to be a fascinating address for the crowd.
