Party in Pink - an amazing night
It is not what is being said, rather who is saying that truly will make a difference in Asian communities. Unfortunately, to engage Asian Communities effectively you need more than just a massage such as Breast Cancer month and free screening to those who are 45 and over. Amelia and Elaine had thought this through and used Party in Pink to talk the people they care about.
Party in Pink attracted 430 people on the night of 18th Oct at the AMI Netball Stadium and raised $5,270 (total ticket sold 527) which easily made it the biggest Zumbathon event in New Zealand so far.
“We were very happy with the outcome of the event. It was such an amazing night! You can feel the love and unity of the community to support a great cause” said a delighted Amelia. “What more is it is about celebration about who we are, the mothers, sisters, daughters and many more” she continued.
An email sums it up beautifully from a participant “So cool to hear about your work. My family has had its share of women affected by breast cancer and thankfully, there is so much support out there. Thank you for helping our people”.This is just the kind of reason why Amelia and Elaine have worked endlessly to make this happen with many help and support from other Zumba Instructors and sponsors.
“We plan to continue this event every year and hope to make it bigger, to raise more funds and hope that one day, a cure will be found to STOP BREAST CANCER”.
Many Asian women still do not know that breast screening is free to those who are aged 45 and over, but because of this event the message is slowly getting across.
Amelia and Elaine believe a community’s issues can be solved by the community and Party in Pink which provide us the platform to do so.
