WOW Grant Fantastic News For
Wellington
The Government’s grant of $900,000 to
enable the World of Wearable Arts to showcase itself to the
world is fantastic news, says Wellington Employers’
Chamber of Commerce Raewyn Bleakley.
“The event will benefit hugely from this support from the Major Events Fund, as will the city.
“WOW is already very successful and this will make it even more so, really positioning it on the international stage.
“And the city will benefit from the increased attention, by the greater number of shows, and by more international entrants and visitors that will come down here as a result.
“WOW will now surely become the biggest event on the city’s and New Zealand’s cultural calendar.
“It attracted an audience of close to 50,000 people this year – who knows where that will end up once exposure increases.
“Economic impact studies have shown that total new spending in the city by those attending and by corporates has been more than $15 million. Clearly there is now potential for that to grow.
“We must congratulate Dame Suzie Moncrieff and her team for making this happen.”
