Auckland Cricket: Chris Martin benefit match
Auckland Cricket will help pay tribute to the career of Chris Martin for Auckland, Canterbury and New Zealand at next Saturday's HRV Twenty20 clash with the Canterbury Wizards.
White toweling headbands with Chris Martin's name and test match bowling and batting statistics printed on them will be available for sale at both HRV Twenty20 games next week - against the Wellington Firebirds on Friday 29 November and the Canterbury Wizards on Saturday 30 November, both on the Eden Park main oval.
The headbands will retail for only $5 with all the proceeds going directly to Chris as part of a benefit fundraiser to honour his contribution to cricket in New Zealand.
Auckland Cricket will also be commemorating the event with a presentation to Chris at the half time break of the Saturday game against the Wizards.
Chris Martin is New Zealand's third highest test wicket-taker of all time with 233 wickets and was the mainstay of the Blackcaps attack for over a decade. His spirit and determination were a huge part of his game and his unique approach to batting endeared him equally with the New Zealand cricketing public.
Chris also favoured for many years the retro stylings of the white towelling headband and this fundraising effort is a way of giving people the chance to say thanks to Chris for his contribution to cricket in a way that highlights his relationship with cricket fans.
