Live Comedy Event For Philllipines

Dai Henwood, Urzila Carlson and Guy Williams lead all star comedy line up raising funds for the Philippines.

A selection of New Zealand's top comedians have come together for a one-off special live comedy event to raise money for the Red Cross' efforts in the typhoon-struck Philippines.

7 Days stars Dai Henwood, Urzila Carlson, Ben Hurley and Paul Ego are joined by Jono and Ben star Guy Williams and current Billy T winner Rose Matafao with current Billy T nominee Pax Assadi who will all take the stage on 3 December in Auckland's Q Theatre. Q has generously provided the venue for this incredible two hour line-up of New Zealand stand up comedy super stars.

Details can be found at comedyaid.co.nz and tickets will soon by on sale at qtheatre.co.nz. Tickets are $35 a head or $50 a head for the limited corporate tables which will include special extras.

For event organiser James Roque, himself a Filipino-Kiwi comedian the recent tragic events have struck close to home. “As a member of the Filipino community, it breaks my heart to watch the events unfold back home. The folks of The Philippines are strong, determined and courageous people and I have no doubt that they will pull through. However when tragedy strikes, even the brave need a hand and the NZ Red Cross are fighting to make sure that affected families are fed, sheltered and kept safe. We need to do everything we can to help.”

Co-organiser and Billy T nominated comedian Tim Batt has been astounded by the group of performers involved. “This is an amazing line up and I don't know when people would ever get the chance to see this many top tier stand ups in one show. It's been really touching to get so much support from such talented people.”

Typhoon Haiyan, thought to be the most powerful tropical cyclone ever recorded in the country’s history, ravaged the Philippines on November 7. Devastating landfalls have killed over 4,000 people and affected a staggering 11 million - with more than $1.33 billion in damages. Hundreds of thousands of people have now been left homeless in Haiyan. The Philippines is home to nearly a 100 million people.
