10th anniversary Kaleidoscopic festival this weekend

Jed Town, Julian Hansen, Goon, River's Edge, Little Lapin, George Henderson and more at Kaleidoscopic festival this weekend

The Kaleidoscope World Series marks its 10th anniversary with a huge lineup over 2 nights at Auckland's UFO - in short, it's a kaleidoscopic festival of live music, ranging from legends in new guises, to Powertool favourites, to newcomers. The festival will also see the Auckland debut of the brand new River's Edge album 'Cambridgetown'.

There are a few surprises amongst the lineup, with some musical doyens and ‘supergroups’ thrown in for good measure. Artists performing at the shows and on the CD are: George Henderson and Matthew Bannister (New Existentialists - Matthew Bannister appears on the CD only), Jed Town (Peacemaker), Julian Hansen (Twinkie), Tony Baldock ex-Surburban Reptiles (Anti Social Network)...along with Powertool faves Come Down Kid, Used To Be Apes, Ghosts Of Electricity, Malcontent, River's Edge and Jennie La Bombe. Add to that some UFO regulars - Jackal, Goon, Tweed, Little Lapin, Freaky Meat, Bluebird Avenue, Carved From Flames and Antony Weller - and there is something there for everyone. A veritable Kaleidoscope of styles.
And presenting his new album will be Chris Baigent of River’s Edge, who's been writing songs with a distinct New Zealand flavour for the past 10 years, influenced by homegrown musicians such as David Kilgour, Chris Knox and The Clean; as well as Neil Young, Paul Kelly and Bob Dylan. Powertool Records is now pleased to announce the release of the new River’s Edge album “Cambridgetown”. The album’s germination began when in 2003-04 Chris travelled the world, settling in London and then Cambridge, where he began writing as he studied Bob Dylan's entire record collection. New songs contained more poetry, and were inspired by the architecture and people of this busy university town. These songs emerge from a fresh-faced “Kiwi” experiencing life abroad for the first time; and Chris says, “I guess you could call this album my ‘thesis on Dylan’”. You can catch River's Edge's new songs at Kaleidoscope World Series 28 on Saturday.
