Youth produce debut music video for Wellington band Shift

Young Wellington band Shift today releases a music video to their song “Dark”, produced by youth as a part of a film academy programme at youth organisation Zeal.

“Dark” is an energetic funk rock song and the new music video, which involves the band escaping zombies to recapture the lead singer’s heart from their alter egos, provides a quirky accompaniment. It can now be viewed online: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Ih6potY8gU

Production of the “Dark” music video is the result of a youth development programme by Zeal, which partners young musicians with aspiring filmmakers and industry professionals.

“It was like nothing we have done before,” says lead singer Jazz Kane, “but certainly one of the best experiences we've had and something we would want to do again.”

Over thirty people were involved in the project, with three Wellington young people Linus Nelson (18), Sanny Orr (14) and Islay Aitchison (15) managing production. The project began in September and involved professional equipment, green screens and special effects. Industry professionals Simon English and Dave Alve provided support throughout.

“Giving young people real life experience is something I am really passionate about,” says Project Coordinator Lisa Burchett. “There is no reason why youth can't make industry standard films if they are passionate enough about it.”
