West Auckland Toy Library receives donation

12 December 2013

Educational play is hugely important for a child’s development.

And the Harcourts Foundation is making it easier for the children of Blockhouse Bay with two community grants.

The West Auckland Toy Library received a donation of $2567 for the purchase of new educational games.

Coordinator October Conway says approximately 300 families and 1000 children regularly borrow toys from the library, all of which encourage positive family interaction.

“Fundraising is an ongoing struggle, so this grant from the Harcourts Foundation is so appreciated,” says October.

Glendene Playcentre also received a grant of $2000 to replace electronic equipment, and buy a child-friendly digital camera.

Playcentre secretary Gemma Scott says their aim is to empower adults and children to work, play, learn and grow together.

“We do get some government funding, but it’s not enough to buy the extras which make such a difference to the kids’ experience at playcentre. We are thrilled with this money,” Gemma says.

Harcourts Blue Fern owner Phil Freeman says he is humbled to be able to better the early childhood experience of Blockhouse Bay children through the Harcourts Foundation.
