Kiwis cash in on wining and dining deals this Christmas

Food and wine lovers rejoice: casual dining is among the most popular items for Kiwi online deal purchasers heading into Christmas, according to spending data by GrabOne. New Zealanders are also spending 17% more on wine orders than we were a year ago.

GrabOne has just released an infographic outlining how our spending habits have evolved in the 12 months from November 2012 to November 2013.

Taking out the top spot this year was the ‘beauty services’ category for women, and ‘general activities’ category for men, while the ‘home & living’ category falls in the top three for both genders.

Kiwis are also spending a third more on accommodation than they were a year ago, with the average GrabOne accommodation transaction for November at $272 (versus $205 in November 2012).

GrabOne Marketing Director, James Kemp, says New Zealanders are taking full advantage of the many fantastic casual dining restaurants that have opened in the last year, and are enjoying an increased discretionary spend on dining out, entertaining at home and nights away in the lead up to Christmas.

“Having recently announced our distribution partnership with Glengarry, it’s not surprising Kiwis are choosing to take advantage of the great deals on top quality wine and bubbly during the festive season.”

The way New Zealanders are spending online has also changed significantly in 12 months. Purchasing on mobile is up 39% from November 2012 to November 2013, and tablet spending is up 22%, against an average spend increase of 10%.

Almost three quarters of spending on GrabOne is done by women, men make up just 26% of market share. The most popular age brackets for coupon purchases are those in their 30s and 40s.
