Sweet deal for heritage tourists

MEDIA RELEASE

Sweet deal for heritage tourists

Visitors to New Zealand Historic Places Trust (NZHPT) properties in Northland can enjoy a sweet summer deal.

The NZHPT’s Passport to History is currently on sale at Northland properties, catering for the influx of travelers taking a break over summer.

The Passport is a concession ticket that provides entry to all the NZHPT properties in Northland for a reduced rate - $20 per adult, and children free.

“That’s the equivalent of five places for the price of two, which is great value for money – particularly for families wanting to explore the extraordinary history of Northland,” says the NZHPT’s Northern Heritage Destinations Manager, Natalie McCondach.

Passport-holders can take a tour of Kemp House, New Zealand’s oldest building, and enjoy a unique heritage shopping experience at the Stone Store or a snack at the fantastic riverside Honey House Cafe.

They’ll also be able to experience some hands-on fun at Pompallier Mission in Russell at the pre-Industrial Revolution printery – and visit Te Waimate, where they can enjoy the beautiful newly shingled roof and pet our new Pitt Island sheep – direct descendants of the animals introduced here by Samuel Marsden between 1814 and 1837.

“A 45-minute drive from Te Waimate then takes people on to Clendon House and Māngungu Mission in the Hokianga – both amazing heritage experiences in their own right,” says Natalie.

“We’re proud to be able to offer people the opportunity to experience some of the best of Kiwi heritage at this very special rate,” she says.

Full membership of the NZHPT, which starts from as little as $45, offers free or discounted entry to all NZHPT properties throughout New Zealand and to hundreds of overseas historic places as well.
