In the steps of Middle Earth- Kiwi film makers keen to take Kiwi films to the world

New Zealand film producers CAS’n’OVA PRODUCTIONS (http://www.letterforhope.com/) credit the recent increased interest in the NZ film industry with their success with two films in recent international two short film competitions.

The two short films that received awards in Indie Fest in July in LA were: ‘Letter For Hope’ and ‘Utu Pihikete’ both produced by Producer/Director Craig Hutchison and written by Wellington writer April Phillips and both shot in Wellington NZ in 2013.

Letter for Hope then won another prestigious prize; an Award of Excellence from The Accolade Global Festival, and is now entered in the Toronto International Film Festival.

“New Zealand has a strong reputation in film thanks to Peter Jackson and others like Lee Tamahori. When I attended IndieFest other film makers were keen to meet New Zealanders. Based on my films and New Zealand’s reputation I was honoured to be asked to be a judge for the short films in the Sunset Film Festival of Los Angeles.

“I am fortunate to be able to make films in New Zealand, based in Christchurch, but I think we have no idea how lucky we are and how small we are till be go and see what the rest of the world is up to”, said Craig Hutchison.

“In New Zealand we have a distinct perspective and view on the world and our local films reflect that. As a way of reflecting who we are, and where we are I urge other filmmakers, with passion and ideas to tell our stories. There is a thriving short film movie sub culture and it ensures we have skilled operators if you know where to look.”

CAS’N’OVA PRODUCTIONS is preparing to launch a feature film in 2015, Motel, based on the successful stage play performed in 2013.
