More Close Battles On the Cards for NZV8 Touring Cars

The NZV8 Touring Cars Championship got underway yesterday at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park with close finishes in both the TLX and TL categories setting the scene on what is expected to be yet another close and exciting six round season.

In the TLX category it was Australia's Jason Bargwanna to see the frist chequered flag of the season taking it ahead of defending champion Nick Ross by a mere 0.034 of a second after 12 laps.

Bargwanna returns to the series to once again pilot the Richards Team Motorsport Toyota Camry whereas Ross, from Cambridge, debuts the brand new Total Lubricant Nissan Altima this weekend.

Third place was picked up by Hamilton's Lance Hughes driving a Holden Commodore.

In the NZV8 Touring Cars TL Championship it was Auckland's Kevin WIlliams who beat pole sitter Craig Baird to the line with a slim margin of 1.122 seconds picking up from where he left off after his overall win at the final round of last season earlier this year in April.

Williams has since moved from the Ford he drove to victory at Pukekohe into the Strapping Systems Holden Commodore boasting the brand new NZV8 420-400WR engine.

Internationally acclaimed Baird is driving a Team Kiwi Racing Holden Commodore for their debut race since the iconic V8 Supercar team's return to competing in the NZV8 Touring Cars TL Championship this year.

In third place making it a clean sweep for Holden was another Auckland driver Andrew Anderson who has returned to the series after being a strong contender in it over many years but did not compete last season.

More fast paced action gets underway in the NZV8 Touring Cars at Hampton Downs with race two at 11.40AM and race three at 4.15PM.
