Wellington art group to raise funds for child cancer charity

Wellington art group to raise funds for child cancer charity

Wellington art co-operative, ARTrove, is hosting an art fundraiser next month for the local branch of the Child Cancer Foundation.

The exhibition fundraiser, on Thursday November 13 in the Asteron Life Centre foyer opposite Wellington Railway Station, will showcase the work of 15 Wellington artists and is the opening of a week-long exhibition.

A portion of each artwork sale on opening night will go to the Child Cancer Foundation to help the families of local child cancer sufferers. Currently child sufferers have to travel to Christchurch or Auckland hospitals to receive some cancer treatments. Funds raised at ARTrove's event will help cover some extra costs that families incur while they have to live out of town.

ARTrove was started in 2011 by three Wellington artists, Adele Eagleson, Karen Hamilton-Smith and Kirsty Fyfe, who are all passionate about creativity and about sharing affordable art with the public.

Adele Eagleson said the group was delighted about fundraising for the Foundation.

“The Foundation aims to reduce the impact of cancer on families by providing them with information, support and practical assistance. This is an excellent cause and we hope that our opening night event is successful in raising much needed funds. As parents ourselves, we can only imagine the stress families go through when a child is diagnosed with cancer.”

ARTrove 2014 opens on Thursday November 13 and runs until Wednesday November 19. The exhibiting artists are Adele Eagleson, Amie McCarron, Anna Stichbury, Brian Nelson, Clare Matthews, Karen Hamilton-Smith, Owie Simpson, Kirsty Fyfe, Paul Vincent, Bruce Mortimer, Kate McLaren, Owie Simpson, Cam Munroe, Marika Williams, Bruce Mortimer, Michael Bennett and Juliet Best.
