Firebirds Captain James Franklin cleans up in the name of Movember and men’s health
Thousands of New Zealand men shaved
their top lip for the last time in preparation for the
moustache month of Movember, in doing so becoming walking,
talking billboards for men’s health.
James Franklin, Wellington Firebirds Captain and bearer of one of New Zealand’s most bowled at beards attended the Movember Wellington Launch Party in true style – coming straight from an intense cricket training session. (See video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6-Z8Z-m2VM)
“I’m gearing up for an fierce season so I’m more than happy to prepare by having a clean shave,” he laughs.
A special Shave Down at Golding’s Free Dive celebrated the official launch of Movember 2014 in Wellington with a night of shaves, beer, brotherhood, and pizza.
The razor gang from Boar N’ Blade threw down some masterful cut throat shaving sessions to help men get Movember ready.
Franklin is joining Movember to set an example to other men about the importance of caring for themselves and their mates.
“Because the typical Kiwi guy isn’t open to talking about themselves or their problems, we’re not proactive about our health,” said Franklin.
“I’ve got to be in tip-top condition so Movember is the perfect opportunity to set an example to other Kiwi blokes out there,” said Franklin.
Franklin was joined on the chair by Robert Dunne, New Zealand Country Manager for The Movember Foundation, who too said goodbye to his long-time lip-warmer.
Movember sparks conversation around men’s health by encouraging the men of New Zealand to grow a moustache for 30 days.
The Movember Foundation funds programmes in research and survivorship for men who are affected by prostate and testicular cancer and mental health, and has raised more than $10.5 million over the past eight years for this purpose.
“We’ve touched the lives of thousands of men around the country by building awareness, raising funds, and changing the face of men’s health for the better,” Dunne said.
“It’s really great to see how many people continue to get involved each year, and we encourage everyone to get amongst it, get online, register and start growing that Mo,” he says.
