Auckland Museum Welcomes The Brand New World of Wearableart™ Exhibition
Opening Friday 21 November, Auckland Museum hosts the brand new World of WearableArt™ exhibition prior to it embarking on a worldwide tour. Every year over 50,000 people vie for tickets to the WOW® Awards shows in Wellington; this new exhibition will give visitors the best spot in the house so that they can experience the magic up close. Combining award-winning garments, exciting audio-visual presentations and a creative ‘workroom’, visitors will be able to delve more deeply into the story behind WOW®.
Designed by industry experts, Wellington-based Workshop E in collaboration with Dame Suzie Moncrieff and Competition Director Heather Palmer, the exhibition showcases 32 WOW® garments, selected from the portfolio of competition winners from over the past decade. Visitors will learn about the designers who spend hundreds of hours creating the wearable works of art and the production team behind the shows - before they try their hand at stage lighting or make a creation of their own in the ‘Paper Challenge’. There’s also the opportunity to uncover more detail with the STQRY app. The app allows users to unlock magical images and see the inspiration behind the creations. The STQRY app is available for iOS and Android.
The World of WearableArt™ exhibition is the result of support from the Government’s Major Events Development Fund and is the first time that WOW will take an exhibition of garments to the world. Following on from its exclusive launch at Auckland Museum in New Zealand the exhibition will tour internationally: Australia from May 2015 and the USA from November 2015.
To celebrate the opening of the exhibition the Museum will be lighting up the outside of its iconic building at night in magnificent colours for the weekend of Friday 21 through Sunday 23 November.
The Museum, with support from Mindfood Style, will also host two after-hours Short Talks in 2015 where experts will share stories of design and talk about the key accessories that complete the look – outlandish shoes and eye-catching jewellery.
