Hanukah in the Park

Hanukah in the Park

It’s almost time for Auckland’s Hanukah in the Park!

Join Auckland’s Jewish community on December 16 to celebrate the festival of Hanukah for the second year running, with an evening which will include live music from the talented Truppman Brothers and the highly acclaimed American Klezmer musician, Yale Strom (performing one night only). The famous Jews Brothers will also be playing their lively and diverse repertoire.

Come and taste Israeli/Mediterranean cuisine and drinks, including latkes, donuts, falafel, shawarma, hot drinks and juices! Enjoy healthy, fresh food from participating and highly regarded Auckland restaurant, Ima’s.

There will be arts and crafts, games and story-telling for kids and the chance for all visitors to have their name scribed in Hebrew. Best of all, watch the lighting of Auckland's tallest Menorah on the 1st Night of Hanukah.

Hanukah, also known as the Festival of Lights and Feast of Dedication, is an eight-day festival commemorating the rededication of the Holy Temple (the Second Temple) in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt against the Greeks in the 2nd century BC. Hanukah is observed for eight nights and days, by the kindling of the lights of a unique candelabrum, the nine-branched Menorah or Hanukiah, one additional light on each night of the holiday, progressing to eight on the final night.
