Thompson Awarded Tactix Captaincy for 2015 Season

Thompson Awarded Tactix Captaincy for 2015 Season

Media Release
8 December 2014

Foundation player Anna Thompson has been named captain of Mainland Tactix for the 2015 ANZ Championship season for the third consecutive year.

The 28 year old has played 90 ANZ Championship games for the Tactix since 2008 and will reach the 100 game milestone next season provided she stays injury free.

Coach Sue Hawkins says Thompson is the natural choice to captain the team.

“Anna has the respect of the players and leads by example, so we had no hesitation in reappointing her to the captaincy role next year,” she said.

“Her experience and 100 percent commitment and belief in the team is invaluable and we are thrilled she has accepted the role which comes with a lot of responsibility.”

Thompson took over the captaincy from Maree Bowden in 2013 and will work closely with coach Sue Hawkins and assistant coach Marianne Delaney-Hoshek to ensure the Tactix continue to make inroads in what is the most competitive Netball league in the world.

She says she’s thrilled to have been appointed captain for another season.

“We have some really exciting players who have joined the Tactix family this season as well as a new coaching team, so it’s an honour to be named to lead the side as captain for 2015.

“We’ve also retained key players right throughout the court and together as a team we will do everything in our power to make it the most successful season for the Tactix yet!” Thompson said.

Two vice captains have also been named for the Mainland Tactix, former Australian Diamond Demelza Fellowes and defender Jess Moulds.

The team starts their season on Monday, March 2, 2015 hosting the Northern Mystics at Horncastle Arena in Christchurch. Season memberships and tickets for all Christchurch matches are now on sale.
