Making the dream Christmas gift even better
Making the dream Christmas gift even better
Electronics are on the top of many people’s wish list for Xmas but you can make the gift even better by making sure your purchase is energy efficient.
The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) says gifting a product with the blue ENERGY STAR label means it will use less energy and be cheaper to run than a standard model.
Efficient Products Manager Eddie Thompson says an example is an ENERGY STAR qualified TV which uses about 40 percent less energy and is therefore 40% cheaper to run.
“Home entertainment products use large amounts of electricity because they are commonly left on standby, accounting for around half of standby use in your home.”
Mr Thompson says New Zealanders are buying more and more electronic products per household and using them for longer.
“It’s a thoughtful gesture to think about the energy efficiency of gifts you give. Your friends and family will thank you for the lower running costs.”
